Stress “Less” Christmas

As you can probably tell by my lack of blogginess over the last few weeks, real life around here has been pretty insane. Between all of the fabulous holiday events going on, singing in the Christmas musical at church last week, finishing this house (yes, I promise a post about that is coming soon), 5/6 of us being sick sometime over the last 3 weeks, and my crazy long list of things for 4 children to take to school on the fridge – oh, and of course there’s the real job, I’ve been, let’s just say – a weeee bit stressed. I have all of the fabulous ideas about what I want to do to make this season special but it seems no matter how hard I try to start each day with those fabulous intentions, by noon I’m stressed that my list has gone awry. And my hair is in a funk – one day it looks fabulous, the next day it looks like Justin Bieber – but worse. Anyhoo… So, how is it that I’m supposed to manage this season (that is absolutely my favorite time of year) with all of the things I want to do and all of the things I have to do? I’ve decided I’m taking some cues from my kids.
- Do the stuff I have to do super fast so I can get it over with.
- Get caught up in the fun moments and just go crazy.
- Get crazy excited about giving.
- Don’t do some things I supposedly have to do and see if anyone notices.
- Sing Jingle Bells or Frosty the Snowman while I complete some of my “have to” tasks.
- Focus on the big picture. Jesus loving us so much he came to earth.
- Forget about if something’s tacky or not. If it’s festive it’s fun.
- Look at Christmas lights with wonder every. single. time.
- Don’t fret over cost sooo much.
- When surprises come and throw my plan off, say ”Yippeee!” and get excited about the new opportunity God’s brought my way.
Here’s hoping your Holidays are merry and bright!
